Getting Here

If you fly into the main airport in San Jose (Juan Santamaria International Airport, code – SJO) you will most likely find lower priced flights.

However, Nosara is about a four-to-five hour drive from the San Jose Airport, depending on traffic and how many trucks and buses you get stuck behind on the two-lane roads.

If you fly into Liberia (Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport, code – LIR) the flights are typically more expensive, but from Liberia you are closer to Nosara, roughly a two-hour drive. We can give you recommendations for taxi and shuttle transportation from either airport.

The other option for getting to Nosara from San Jose or Liberia is either by rental car or a hired driver, shuttle or taxi.

Prices from San Jose range from $200 – $250 for a one-way trip; from Liberia it is roughly $100 – $150 one-way, depending on the time of year.

If you are arriving at night, and you don’t want to spend the night in Liberia or San Jose, we highly recommend using a shuttle service, because they know the roads well–driving at night and on the dirt roads can be dangerous. If you decide to rent a car and drive here, please view our driving directions from Liberia and/or San Jose.

From the Liberia International Airport take a right onto the main road as you exit the airport and head south on the main highway. Follow signs to Santa Cruz and then Nicoya. You will go about 1 hour straight on this highway.

At Nicoya, take a right. Drive straight through the town of Nicoya. This will put you on the main road to Samara and Nosara. Continue on this road until you come to “Samara” gas station on the left hand side of the road.

Very soon after the Samara gas station, you will make right hand turn (bear right) onto an unpaved road (it’s paved for a few meters and then the pavement ends). There should be a sign for Nosara / Playa Guiones)

Remain on this road until the road comes to an intersection. Follow the signs to the right to the fishing village of Garza. About 8 minutes +/- after Garza is the town of Esparanza where you will find a small grocery store across the street from a development called “Villas Esparanza.” This is a great place to buy groceries, bottled water, etc. before you get to the house. Have the driver stay with the vehicle or be sure to lock it – you never want to leave your belongings in an unlocked car, here or anywhere on your trip. It’s simply playing it safe. After you complete your shopping, continue on the road for about five minutes.

You are now entering the Playas de Nosara (Playa Guiones) beach area! (Almost there!) Coconut Harry’s Surf Shop will be on your right hand side and is a good landmark. Continue straight past Coconut Harry’s and about another 1/8 mile, take your next left just before the Giardino Tropicale (Hotel and Restaurant). Follow signs for Casa Romantica.

Go straight down to the bottom of the hill and make a right then make your first left. Again, follow the signs for Casa Romantica Hotel. Jungle Beach House is the blue gate directly to the right of the Casa Romantica Hotel driveway.

If the blue gate is open, pull up as far as you can and park in front of the Rancho. If the gate is closed, open it and let yourself in the driveway. If the gate is locked, look for the combination key lock hanging on the left side of the gate. We sent the combination for this lock to the group leader in a previous email. The key to the gate should be inside the key lock.
